Have you ever wondered what kinds of tool an ordinary residential ductwork installer carrying in his pouch?
On this and on the following pages you can see a complete set of all necessary tools that I’m usually carrying in my pouch, keeping in my toolbox or having in my van.

Some of the tools I’m using daily, others form time to time. Of course there are some other tools you may need for any extra work such as furnace replacement or HVAC installation, but for this particular trade here is just what you need.

I had NO idea how bad the tin snips I was using actually were until I tried these snips. Wow, what a difference. I use snips for flashing-grade tin (or thinner) and just wanted something I could use to cut small openings with. These are absolute fantastic. Nice heft and seem very, very sharp. The blades are short which make it easy to cut a small rectangle inside a piece of tin (after making a starter hole with an awl).

When I bought a pair of these about 5 years ago, I hesitated at the price. I had been wearing out the standard snips ($12-18) available at the big box and hardware stores, in a year or so. I wanted something better. At the time these Malco's were $30+, but I tried them anyway.
End of story is: I will only buy these Malco max2000 aviation snips anymore. They are sharp, they cut better, easier and whoa, do they last longer. I think they are a little larger in size but are still able to maneuver tight turns, the handle lock works well, I do some cutting of stainless steel also with these. Also, I'm not sure why, but these snips will start a cut at a very slight angle to an edge in light gauge sheet metal, rather than roll the edge over and not initiate a cut like cheaper snips. Great snips.

Works great on sheet metal tubing like air duct or on gutter down-spouts; the tool helps create a male fitting to slide duct type metal parts together. I learned that the three blades should be on the outside, while the two blades are on the inside of sheet metal tube, this helps create the reduced radius opening so that parts can slide together.
Sure beats trying to use two pairs of pliers to crinkle/create a duct reduction or pinch seams together.

I was about to start a metal roofing project and needed a set of notchers. Standing seam metal needs about a 1" hem folded at the bottom of each edge. The Malco N2 cuts two nice 7/8ths notches that is acceptable to allow for this hem. So far I've done about 70 panels of 26 gauge steel without a problem.

So the last time I really owned a framing hammer was when I graduated high school and was framing houses in AZ. That was over 20 years ago. I bought this to frame some rooms in some living quarters in Afghanistan...and wow have times changed. It has a magnet to hold a nail to tap it in, then you can just slam it in no problem. I can't really compare it to other framing hammers, but for me...this hammer is great! Good weight, the claw works well, and the nail loader...awesome. I never thought much about hammer technology, but I'm glad Stanley did. Great buy!
